LOCAL BUSES

City and suburban buses

Matsue City Bus and Ichibata Bus share the urban network. Start here for the castle area, Tamatsukuri Onsen, Yaegaki Shrine, Daikonshima and Mihonoseki connections.

The network was reorganised on 1 April 2026. Matsue City Bus and Ichibata Bus now jointly operate the Kawatsu and Yakumo corridors, while several outer services moved to community transport. In the central flat-fare zone, many ordinary routes cost ¥250. ICOCA and other nationwide transport IC cards are accepted on city and Ichibata local buses; community, airport and highway services have separate rules.

Destination number1270

Lakeline from platform 7 is the simplest sightseeing route for Matsue Castle, the Horikawa boats, Shiomi Nawate, the Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, Matsue Shinjiko Onsen Station and the Shimane Art Museum. Ordinary buses 12 and 70 also pass the castle area and may fit your schedule better. Lakeline itself has no destination number and runs in one direction, so check the exact stop name.

Tamatsukuri Onsen

玉造線

Destination number6162

Take the Tamatsukuri Line from platform 5. It runs from Matsue Shinjiko Onsen Station through Matsue Station and JR Tamatsukuri-Onsen Station entrance to the onsen town. Do not confuse the city-centre stop for the hot-spring district with the expressway stop named Tamatsukuri, which is outside the ryokan area.

松江市交通局

Yaegaki Shrine

八重垣線

Destination number64

Direct city buses leave platform 5 for Yaegaki Shrine and take about 20 minutes. The central flat fare is ¥250. Some trips continue to Matsue City Hospital; check that the destination display includes Yaegaki Shrine. Holiday arrangements can change around New Year.

松江市交通局

Yuushien and Daikonshima

八束線

Destination number70

Take a Yatsuka Line bus from platform 5 and get off at Yatsuka-chō / Yuushien Entrance. The ride is about 50 minutes and service is much less frequent than central routes, so check the return trip first. Seasonal Yuushien events may add separate free shuttles; these are not part of the regular route.

02

COMMUNITY TRANSPORT

Community and demand buses

Twelve outer districts have community transport. Tourist trips to Mihonoseki and Kumano Taisha require particular attention to transfers or advance booking.

Services cover Ōno/Aika, Furue, Honjō/Mochida, Kashima, Shimane, Mihonoseki, Yakumo/Imbe, Tamayu, Shinji, Yatsuka, Higashi-Izumo and Mitsu. Some are fixed-route buses; others are AI demand buses requiring registration and a booking. Ordinary Matsue and Ichibata IC-card or pass rules do not automatically apply, so open the relevant district page before travelling.

Destination number11

From platform 2, take destination number 11 on the Manbara Line to Mihonoseki Terminal, then transfer to the Mihonoseki community bus and stay on to its final stop, Mihonoseki. Using the terminal stop rather than Miho Jinja Entrance makes the walk to Miho Shrine easier to understand. The full journey is about 90 minutes. Check both outbound and return timetables because a heavily delayed first bus may miss the connection.

Kumano Taisha

Destination number21

Take the Yakumo Line to Yakumo Bus Depot, then use the AI demand bus Matsue Norūto to Kumano Taisha. The demand section requires advance registration and a booking through the app, Matsue City LINE account or telephone; it has no fixed route or timetable. Morning and evening fixed community trips also exist on selected routes, so build the return journey before leaving Matsue.
